A Lagos couple who tied the knot in February has ended their marriage just one month later, citing irreconcilable differences over their intimacy preferences.

The wife, Temilade Balogun, disclosed that her husband’s high sex drive became overwhelming, making their union unbearable. “My husband loves sex too much; he doesn’t get tired easily. Whenever he comes back from work, he prefers having sex to anything else. I wish I knew all these before we got married. I no longer have peace of mind,” she said.

Her husband, however, defended his position, stating that their incompatibility made the marriage unworkable. “I would rather end the marriage than cheat. I paid all necessary marriage rites, but the mistake I made was not sleeping with her before marriage. Our church forbade it, and I now regret not knowing more about our sexual compatibility before tying the knot. My ex-wife gets tired after just five minutes, and I can’t deal with that,” he explained.

Community Reactions

The couple’s abrupt separation has sparked conversations about religious doctrines and their influence on marital compatibility, particularly regarding restrictions on premarital sex.

Taiwo Lasisi, President of the Ta’awun Political Forum, expressed concern over the implications of divorce. “The effects of divorce go beyond the ordinary; they last even after the couple is gone. People always count the number of times one has been married,” he remarked.

Social commentator Omooba Awofeso Rasheed Ololade also weighed in, questioning how faith-based organizations plan to handle such issues in the future. “This was a relationship of opposites. Church doctrine prohibiting premarital sex led to an outcome that was not supportive. How will religious institutions address similar cases moving forward? Perhaps therapy or better guidance from family and society could have saved the situation,” he suggested.

As discussions continue, the case highlights the complex intersection of religious beliefs, personal compatibility, and the realities of modern relationships.
