As political activities gather momentum in Ward A of Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA) ahead of the upcoming councillorship election, one contender is steadily gaining widespread attention—Hon. Comrade Olumide Donald, popularly known as OmoAdugbo. While several aspirants are seeking recognition, many constituents say Donald’s longstanding community involvement and proven leadership give him a significant edge.

Even before officially declaring his intention to run, Donald had built a strong reputation for grassroots engagement and developmental efforts. A standout initiative remains the COVID-19 Free Water Project, which he spearheaded during the peak of the global pandemic.

At a time when fear and uncertainty were widespread, particularly due to the threat of community transmission, Donald led awareness campaigns across Ward A. He also wrote a Save-Our-Soul (S.O.S) letter to the World Health Organization (WHO), appealing for urgent support. His effort paid off, attracting financial backing from the WHO that enabled the installation of water tanks and provision of sanitary materials to curb the spread of the virus.

The water project continues to benefit residents, particularly underserved and vulnerable groups, by providing free access to safe and potable water. Supporters say this is emblematic of Donald’s responsive leadership and commitment to people-focused solutions—qualities they believe are often lacking among elected officials.

In outlining his vision, Donald said his candidacy is driven by a RELIEF AGENDA focused on equity, purposeful governance, and fair distribution of resources.

“I’m not in this race for personal gain,” he said. “My mission is to serve the people, restore hope to struggling families, and reawaken the dreams of our disillusioned youth.”

He added that the residents of Ward A are not mere numbers in a voter register but “the very soul” of the community. “Their struggles inspire me, their hope sustains me, and their sacrifices drive me to do more,” he said.

Donald also challenged his fellow aspirants and the incumbent to embrace a merit-based political process, urging voters to look beyond promises and examine candidates’ past records.

“I challenge anyone seeking this office to show what they’ve done for our people—before now,” he declared.

The councillorship race in Ward A of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA is expected to be keenly contested, but many residents believe the track record of OmoAdugbo may ultimately tilt the scales in his favor.
