In a heartfelt ceremony that united dignitaries, community leaders, and residents, the Hon. Tunde Braimoh Modern Market was officially commissioned in Ketu, Lagos State, on Tuesday, marking a major milestone in the area’s economic and infrastructural development.

Formerly known as Mandela Market, the newly redeveloped facility was renamed in honour of the late Hon. Tunde Braimoh, a prominent politician and former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who passed away on July 10, 2020, after a brief illness.

The commissioning event was led by Mayor Dele Oshinowo, Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), and graced by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

In his remarks, Speaker Obasa described Braimoh as “a statesman whose legacy of service and intellect should never be forgotten.” He commended Mayor Oshinowo for the thoughtful gesture and for ensuring that the late lawmaker’s contributions remain etched in the community’s history.

“Chairman Oshinowo has demonstrated leadership with heart,” Obasa said. “Hon. Braimoh gave his all to this community, and immortalising him through this market is both symbolic and impactful.”

Barrister Oyinkansola Tunde Braimoh, daughter of the late lawmaker, was visibly moved by the tribute. She expressed deep appreciation to the council for honouring her father’s memory and highlighted the importance of legacy in public service.

“This gesture means a lot to my family. It is not just a name—it is the preservation of values, sacrifice, and excellence my father stood for,” she said.

Also present at the ceremony was Pastor (Mrs) Yetunde Arobieke, who welcomed guests to the newly renamed market and described it as a vibrant economic hub poised to support local commerce and empower traders.

“This market will not only serve as a space for buying and selling but as a centre of community growth and resilience,” she said, encouraging traders and residents to take ownership of the facility.

The Hon. Tunde Braimoh Modern Market is part of a series of projects being commissioned by the outgoing administration of Mayor Oshinowo as he concludes his second term in office. He described the market as a “legacy project” that reflects his administration’s commitment to service and community advancement.

“This market isn’t just brick and mortar—it’s a symbol of respect for a man who gave so much to our people,” Oshinowo said.

The event concluded with celebratory applause and a call for continued unity and development in Ketu and beyond, as residents hailed the project as a lasting tribute to a beloved son of the soil.
