Engr. Seriki Moshood Olalekan, born in the mid-1970s to Alhaji Shakiru Akanni and Alhaja Seriki, has built a distinguished career defined by discipline, dedication, and a commitment to both academic excellence and community advancement.
He began his education at Alapere Primary School before proceeding to Kosofe College, Ketu, for his secondary education. While awaiting admission into higher education, Olalekan engaged in grassroots politics under the United Nigeria Congress (UNC), which later merged to form the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), an experience that laid the foundation for his understanding of governance and public service.
In 1996, he gained admission to Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikosi (now Lagos State University of Science and Technology, LASUSTECH) to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Later, he enrolled at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, earning an honours degree in Civil Engineering. His pursuit of academic excellence continued with a Master’s in Structural Engineering at UNILAG, complemented by an Erasmus Mundus scholarship at the University of Boras, Sweden, where he obtained a Master’s in Industrial Engineering, focusing on Quality and Environmental Management. Olalekan returned to complete his Structural Engineering programme and later pursued a Master’s in Highway and Traffic Engineering, completed in 2018. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at UNILAG.
Professionally, Olalekan joined the Lagos State Government in 2006 as a Civil Engineer in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure. He has held significant positions across government agencies and parastatals, including the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LSUBEB) and the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC), rising to a director-level role.
A committed advocate for community development, Engr. Seriki Moshood Olalekan has been instrumental in rehabilitating key roads across Kosofe and its environs. Notable projects include Lawal Street in Pako, Adedoyin, Iyase, and Fadare Streets in Mile 12, Oriola and Julius Elebiju Streets, Kazeem Street, and the Love All and Salawe Streets in the Ikosi-Isheri axis.
As a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Olalekan exemplifies the role of a technocrat in public service. His technical expertise, administrative competence, and unwavering dedication continue to enhance infrastructure, promote sustainable growth, and improve the quality of life within Lagos State.
