The councillor representing Anthony Ward D in the Kosofe Legislative Arm, Gbenga David, has threatened to sue the Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Moyosore Ogunlewe, over what he described as the defamation of his character through a rape allegation allegedly linked to the chairman.
David disclosed this during an exclusive interview with a KosofePost correspondent in Anthony Village, Lagos, on Monday, insisting that he has no criminal record and questioning the credibility of the allegation.
KosofePost gathered that a document circulating in the public domain contained serious allegations against the councillor, claiming he was involved in an attempted rape incident concerning Miss Idowu Charity and further describing him as a “serial rapist.” The document also called on relevant authorities to investigate and prosecute him.
Reacting to the claims, David firmly denied the allegation, alleging that the accusation was orchestrated by the chairman in retaliation aimed at damaging his political career.
According to him, the allegation emerged shortly after what he described as an unfavourable judgment against the chairman by the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“I wish to address your swift intervention regarding the ongoing rumours on sexual allegations allegedly levelled against me by the executive chairman and some of his associates. I want to state unequivocally that these allegations are nothing more than a fabrication and a piece of political propaganda,” David said.
He further claimed that the narrative was deliberately created to tarnish his reputation following the outcome of a petition reportedly submitted by councillors over alleged marginalisation and abuse of office.
“It is my understanding that this false narrative was deliberately orchestrated by the executive chairman in an attempt to tarnish my reputation and retaliate for the outcome of that judgment,” he added.
David also revealed that he had approached the court to seek an injunction against the council’s investigation into the allegation, arguing that the process would be biased. He said he preferred that the matter be resolved through the court to ensure fairness.
The councillor further alleged that the chairman targeted him because he resisted attempts to undermine the party leadership.
According to him, the chairman allegedly retaliated by using what he described as “shadow councillors” to replace democratically elected representatives, including himself. He also claimed that statutory allowances were withheld and official vehicles were not renewed for some councillors.
David additionally alleged that a ₦100 million empowerment programme was conducted without the knowledge of the affected councillors, whom he described as marginalised.
He accused the chairman of using his position to confront political actors who oppose him.
“According to him, you are fighting the leadership of the party. You are fighting the House of Assembly member. You are fighting the commissioners. You are fighting the supervisor,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, Moyosore Ogunlewe had not issued an official response to the allegations made by the councillor.
