Excitement is building across Kosofe as a major sports infrastructure project—facilitated by Hon. Femi Saheed, the lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency II—approaches completion.
The 12,000-capacity, FIFA-standard stadium, delivered through the Lagos State Government Ministry, is now in its final stages and is expected to be commissioned soon.
In an exclusive chat, Saheed described the project as a strategic investment in grassroots sports development, aimed at expanding access to modern sporting facilities within the constituency.
“This is more than just a football pitch,” he said. “It is a multi-purpose sports hub designed to support a range of activities, including football, basketball, and athletics such as relay races.”
He noted that the facility would reduce the need for residents and athletes to travel long distances to venues like the National Stadium in Surulere or the Teslim Balogun Stadium for major sporting activities.
Strategically located at Idera Primary School, the stadium is also expected to serve as a hub for school sports, providing both public and private institutions with access to a standard venue for inter-house competitions and other events.
Observers say the development could play a significant role in promoting youth engagement, nurturing local talent, and strengthening community participation in sports.
With the project nearing completion, expectations are rising that the facility will mark a new phase in sports development within Kosofe, positioning the constituency as an emerging centre for grassroots athletics in Lagos State.
