Two major traditional events in Oworonshoki, Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State, are scheduled for November 14, 2026, creating a potential scheduling clash between the coronation ceremony of a newly installed monarch and a major stage of the community’s annual Egungun Festival.
The coronation of HRM Oba Kabir Adesegun Bashir, known as Ilufemiloye Odundun I, the Oba Oko Baba Agba of Oworonshoki, is scheduled for Saturday, November 14.
According to the programme announced for the ceremony, the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, is expected to attend as Royal Father of the Day, alongside Oba Abdulfatai Oyeyinka Aromire Ojora, the Oba of Ijora Lagos.
However, the Oworonshoki Egungun Festival 2026, organised under the authority of the Oloworo of Oworonshoki Kingdom, HRM Oba Babatunde Saliu, and the Council of Chiefs, also has a major event scheduled for the same date.
The published festival programme lists activities spanning November 12, 2026, to March 2027, with the following events scheduled for November:
- November 12: Aisun Agan
- November 13: Ibodo Oko
- November 14: Adinimodo
The overlap means the coronation ceremony and the Adinimodo stage of the Egungun Festival are scheduled to take place on the same day.
The coincidence has raised questions about event coordination, attendance, security arrangements and the management of activities involving traditional institutions and residents across the community.
However, it remains unclear whether the organisers have held consultations to address the scheduling overlap or whether any adjustments to either programme are being considered.
With both events approaching, coordination among the organisers, traditional stakeholders and relevant security agencies could help minimise logistical difficulties and ensure that the celebrations proceed peacefully.
As of the time of writing, no official statement was available indicating whether either event would be rescheduled.
