Hon. Segun Aka Bashorun, former Vice Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, has reportedly returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a development that could influence the party’s grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Bashorun’s return comes against the backdrop of political divisions within the Kosofe APC during the 2023 elections, when some party figures supported candidates contesting on other platforms.

Revisiting the 2023 Constituency 1 Contest

During the 2023 elections, Lanre Carew contested on the Social Democratic Party (SDP) platform after leaving the APC, while Bashorun reportedly supported Akinwande Osikominu, who ran for the Kosofe Constituency 1 seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly under the Labour Party (LP).

The contest between the APC and LP candidates was particularly close. Figures provided for the election show that Hon. Sanni Ganiu Okanlawon of the APC polled 11,649 votes, while Osikominu recorded 11,563 votes, a margin of just 86 votes.

The result highlighted the competitiveness of the constituency race and the potential impact of divisions among political stakeholders on the APC’s electoral performance.

Bashorun’s reported return could provide an opportunity for renewed engagement among party members as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace. However, the extent to which the development will affect grassroots mobilisation remains to be seen.

Questions Over Campaign Coordination

Attention is also turning to coordination among APC candidates in Kosofe as campaign activities continue across the federal constituency.

Mayor Dele Oshinowo, the party’s candidate for the Kosofe Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, has held stakeholder meetings and community engagements across Greater Kosofe. He has also appeared at campaign activities alongside Hon. Murtala Seriki, the APC candidate for Kosofe Constituency 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

However, KosofePost said it was yet to establish why incumbent lawmaker Okanlawon had not been seen campaigning alongside Oshinowo during the engagements covered by the publication.

It remains unclear whether the apparent absence reflects scheduling differences, separate campaign arrangements or other considerations. No explanation from Okanlawon was included in the information available for this report.

As the APC works to strengthen its internal cohesion ahead of 2027, the level of coordination among its candidates and returning political stakeholders will be an important aspect of its campaign activities in Kosofe.
