Former Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) chairmanship aspirant, Hon. Babatunde Muyideen Durosimi, popularly known as BMD, has announced a proposed ₦5.5 million incentive scheme tied to voter turnout and ward-level voting performance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement issued by the BMD Media Team, the initiative comprises a ₦5 million reward for Ward G if it records the highest number of votes among wards in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, and a separate ₦500,000 prize for the polling unit with the highest voter turnout across the council area.
The statement said the scheme is intended to encourage grassroots mobilisation, promote voter education, and increase participation in the electoral process.
How the Incentive Scheme Works
Under the proposed arrangement, Ward G would receive ₦5 million if it records the highest total number of votes in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA during the elections. The statement said the reward would go to party faithful and supporters in the ward.
A further ₦500,000 would be awarded to the polling unit that records the highest voter turnout across the LCDA.
The media team described the incentives as a way to recognise collective participation and encourage community-level engagement ahead of the polls.
“The proposed incentives are intended to recognise collective commitment and encourage greater participation while reinforcing the importance of peaceful, credible, and transparent elections,” the statement said.
Voter Participation and Electoral Compliance
Durosimi said political mobilisation and civic participation begin at the ward and polling-unit levels. The initiative, according to his media team, is expected to encourage party members, community leaders, and residents to participate in voter education and peaceful electoral activities.
The statement also stressed the need for compliance with electoral laws as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
However, the proposed rewards distinguish between two different measures: the total number of votes recorded by a ward and the voter turnout rate at an individual polling unit. The announcement did not provide further details on how the rewards would be administered or independently verified.
The scheme places grassroots mobilisation at the centre of Durosimi’s stated approach to the coming elections in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA.
