Residents of Oworonshoki, Iyana-Oworo and Gbagada communities in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State have commended the Mayor Dele Oshinowo Foundation’s Kosofe Cares Free Medical Outreach, describing it as a demonstration of concern for the health and wellbeing of ordinary residents.

The nine-day initiative entered its fifth day on Tuesday, with the outreach held at Oriola Street, along the Iyana-Oworo Expressway.

Organised by Mayor Dele Oshinowo, former Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Kosofe Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections, in partnership with philanthropist Seyi Tinubu, the programme aims to provide free healthcare services to more than 4,000 residents across the constituency.

The medical intervention, delivered through the Lagos State ILERA EKO Health Insurance Scheme, offers free health insurance enrolment and renewal, medication, tuberculosis testing, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, medical consultations, eye examinations and prescription glasses.

Beneficiaries who spoke during the outreach described the programme as a timely intervention, particularly for households struggling to afford medical treatment.

They said the availability of free consultations, screenings and medication had reduced the financial burden of healthcare and encouraged residents who had delayed seeking medical attention to get checked.

Residents Share Their Experiences

Mrs Omolara Ajayi, one of the beneficiaries, thanked the organisers, saying the intervention came at a time when she was struggling to afford her medication.

“I am very grateful to the organisers of this programme for providing healthcare for us at this time. Words are not enough to express my appreciation. I’ve taken the drugs given to me and I can feel how they are working in my body,” she said.

Ajayi explained that she had been experiencing chest discomfort, coughing and high blood pressure but had been unable to afford her medication in recent days.

She added that she also received medication and eyeglasses, which she intended to use for reading her Bible.

Another beneficiary, Mr Olumide Faleti, said he learnt about the outreach through his church and attended because of persistent eyesight problems.

He said he had difficulty seeing distant objects and wanted to have his eyes examined.

“It was on Sunday that I heard the information that this medical outreach was coming to Oworonshoki. When the information was given in our community, I had it in mind that I would be here to have my eyes tested because I have eye pains. I can’t see from a distance,” Faleti said.

Miss Omobola Dickson also described the outreach as a significant intervention for residents of Gbagada and Oworonshoki.

“Today is a great day in Oworonshoki and its environs. We really appreciate the efforts of our President Bola Tinubu, and the incoming MHR himself. We thank him for bringing this programme to our doorsteps,” she said.

Dickson said the free services had saved beneficiaries the expenses they would otherwise have incurred at hospitals and clinics.

“We have done our medical check-up. We have done our blood pressure. If we want to go to hospital for what they have provided for us here, we know what it will cost us. Today, they are giving us free of charge without collecting a dime from us,” she added.

Oshinowo Highlights Grassroots Healthcare Access

Medical personnel at the outreach also educated residents on preventive healthcare and healthy living.

Addressing beneficiaries, Oshinowo said the programme was designed to bring medical services closer to communities, particularly residents who face financial barriers to accessing healthcare.

He noted that the intervention had provided relief to many beneficiaries, including older people who might otherwise struggle to pay for medical services.

Oshinowo also urged beneficiaries to share information about the programme with others in their communities and called for support for President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

The Kosofe Cares outreach is part of the foundation’s effort to extend free medical services across Kosofe Local Government Area, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA and Agboyi-Ketu LCDA.
