The Lagos fire service and rescue service responded to two separate fire outbreaks on Wednesday morning in Lagos, Nigeria. Margaret Adeseye, director of Lagos fire service, reported that the first fire started around 7:25am in a room on the ground floor of a four-storey building. The agency was able to contain and put out the fire before it could spread and cause any major damage.
However, another fire outbreak was reported in a warehouse on Olabisi Close, Mende – Maryland area of Lagos, which housed both commercial and residential floors. The fire affected the commercial storage of clothing materials on the ground floor and spread to the fourth floor in an unusual pattern, leaving the first to third floors unaffected.
Thankfully, there were no reported deaths or injuries at both scenes of the incidents. The Lagos state and Federal Fire Service, the Nigerian Police, LASAMBUS, and LASEMA all worked together to put out the fire in the warehouse.
The Lagos fire service has responded to 11 emergencies within the last 24 hours, with the two fire outbreaks being the most recent incidents. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fires and to prevent future occurrences.
In light of these incidents, the Lagos fire service emphasizes the importance of fire safety awareness and preparedness. Individuals and businesses are encouraged to regularly conduct fire safety checks and implement preventive measures to avoid loss of life and property due to fire outbreaks.
