The Labour Party expressed its heartfelt condolences to Thisday Newspaper, the Adewoyin family of Ile-Ife, Osun State, and the Oyedele family of Abeokuta, Ogun State, following the passing of Princess Florence Wuraola Omolola Adewoyin (née Oyedele). The former Chief Sub-Editor of Thisday Newspaper, known for her humility and diligence, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the age of 57 after a brief illness. She was laid to rest in a solemn Christian ceremony on Monday, July 11, 2023.
In a press statement signed by Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, the party expressed shock at the untimely demise of Princess Adewoyin, stating that her death had dealt a significant blow to the journalism profession in the country. Known as one of the finest journalists of her time, Princess Adewoyin was revered for her beauty, hard work, and commitment to both her profession and family.
“The Labour Party mourns the loss of Princess Adewoyin, an epitome of professionalism in the field of journalism. Her exceptional talent and dedication will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this difficult time, and we pray that they find the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” expressed Dr. Arabambi.
Born into the esteemed family of Chief Amos Folorunsho and Mrs. Emily Abike Oyedele on March 4, 1966, Princess Florence Wuraola Omolola Adewoyin hailed from Oke-Ijemo in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Her educational journey led her to Shiloh Primary School in Agege and St. Leos College in Onikoko, Abeokuta. She pursued her passion for Mass Communication at Ogun State Polytechnic (Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta) and further honed her skills in Communication and Language at the University of Ibadan. Princess Adewoyin also obtained a Master’s degree in Communication Arts from the University of Ibadan.
The late Princess Adewoyin’s career was illustrious and marked by several accomplishments. From 2010 to 2013, she served as the former Assistant Secretary of the Lagos chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ). Her professionalism, integrity, and dedication to her craft earned her the respect of her colleagues and the wider journalism community.
Princess Florence Wuraola Omolola Adewoyin (née Oyedele) is survived by her loving widower, brothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren. Her legacy as an exceptional journalist and a compassionate individual will continue to inspire future generations in the field of journalism.
The Labour Party joins the nation in mourning the loss of this exceptional talent and extends its deepest sympathies to the grieving families. The journalism profession in Nigeria has indeed lost a shining star whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched with her professionalism and warm spirit.
