Since the untimely demise of the late Senator Adebayo Osinowo, fondly known as “Pepper,” on June 15, 2020, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kosofe Chapter is still in search of a fitting successor to fill the void left by the seasoned politician. Senator Osinowo, a stalwart of the APC and a key figure in the Tinubu Mandate Movement in Lagos East Senatorial District, was a prominent force in Nigerian politics until his passing.

Recalling the power dynamics within the APC, the late Senator Osinowo’s loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu often clashed with the allegiances of others, notably former Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. This led to the banning of political groups such as the justice forum and Mandate within the party.

Senator Osinowo’s commitment to serving his constituents was evident in his pledge to donate his monthly salary to the people of Lagos East Senatorial District, alongside numerous empowerment programs. His sudden death left religious leaders, associates, and supporters distraught, highlighting the significant impact he had on the community.

Having served Kosofe Constituency 1 for four consecutive terms before his tenure in the National Assembly, Senator Osinowo’s influence was unparalleled. Political observers note that his achievements in Kosofe were unmatched, as seen in the narrow margin of victory during the 2023 election, where his successor, Hon. Sanni Ganiu Okanlawon, secured his second term seat.

While potential candidates have emerged, including Labour Party’s Akinwande Osikominu, and indications of interest from APC members, surpassing Senator Osinowo’s legacy poses a significant challenge. His long-term representation in Kosofe remains a benchmark for aspiring leaders, with his departure serving as a reminder of the lasting impact of genuine service to the people.
