The Taawun Political Forum (TPF) marked Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day with its 2nd Annual Lecture, aimed at sensitizing its members on the socio-political development of the country. The event, held in Kosofe Local Government, was focused on reorienting public attitudes toward politics and civic engagement.

Mr. Taiwo Lasisi, the President of TPF’s Lagos State chapter, emphasized the forum’s mission to reshape the negative perceptions of politics among citizens and prepare its members for active civic participation. “The purpose of TPF is to educate the populace on their civic rights and responsibilities while also contributing to socio-political progress,” Lasisi said.

Founded in 2020, the Taawun Political Forum has actively mobilized youth for sociopolitical roles, organized workshops on citizenship, and facilitated several humanitarian initiatives including youth empowerment, free health services, scholarships, and support for the underprivileged.

TPF’s impact can be traced to its role in mobilizing pre-election and election exercises that helped usher in the current local government administration. The forum also organized political sensitization programs during the 2022/2023 general elections to address political apathy and promote greater civic participation.

Lasisi highlighted the operational reach of TPF, which currently covers Kosofe, Ikeja, Shomolu, Surulere, and Mushin Local Government Areas. He, however, called for increased support from the government and philanthropists to expand TPF’s humanitarian and socio-political projects across more areas in Lagos State.

Hon. Femi Saheed, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, commended the initiative and urged Nigerian youths to remain patient with President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Saheed also stressed the importance of avoiding violence and contributing to the nation’s progress.

The event was attended by students from Kosofe public schools, representatives of security agencies, and aspiring local government officials.
