The Kosofe Legislative Council of Kosofe Local Government has presented 12 newly enacted bye-laws to the executive arm, marking the culmination of its week-long legislative week. The grand finale of the seven-day program, themed “Synergising Legislative Council and Community Engagement,” took place on Thursday at the council secretariat, highlighting the council’s commitment to governance through community involvement.

Hon. Idowu Oluloro, Leader of the Council, emphasized that these laws were the result of extensive community engagement. “We councillors are elected to represent the people, and community input is essential for our work,” Oluloro stated. “We’ve been conducting town hall and stakeholder meetings, and now we have formalized these engagements through this legislative week.”

One standout bye-law aims to safeguard public infrastructure by preventing unauthorized road digging. Another targets business owners who conduct car washes on public walkways, reinforcing the council’s commitment to maintaining public order and protecting investments in infrastructure.

Hon. Okanlawon Sanni, Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, commended the 7th Assembly of Kosofe for their proactive approach. “The initiative is commendable, highlighting the importance of community engagement for effective policymaking,” Sanni remarked. “Such synergy ensures that legislative actions align with the real needs of the community.”

Executive Chairman Mr. Moyosore Ogunlewe also praised the council’s legislative arm for their dedication, noting that the new bye-laws are poised to advance the council’s development efforts.

The event celebrated past contributions as Hon. Okanlawon Sanni presented Certificates of Service to former councillors in recognition of their service. This gesture, according to Oluloro, is part of fostering a legacy of commitment within the council.
