With just weeks to the July 12 local government elections in Lagos State, growing tension has emerged in the Kosofe Federal Constituency following widespread reports of vandalism of campaign materials belonging to various political candidates.

The KosofePost newsroom has received numerous complaints from concerned residents and political stakeholders alleging that posters, banners, and branded promotional items of multiple aspirants have been deliberately destroyed in several parts of the constituency.

While no specific group or individual has been officially blamed, political observers fear the trend could fuel unrest if not swiftly addressed.

Reacting to the situation, residents and civic groups have called for immediate intervention by relevant authorities, urging all political actors to uphold the principles of fair play and democratic decency.

“The rule of the game must be fair play,” one community leader said. “Candidates, political parties, and their supporters must respect each other and the electoral process. Destroying campaign materials is not a show of strength; it reflects fear, desperation, and a lack of confidence in popular support.”

Stakeholders have also appealed to the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), the police, and local party leaderships to investigate the incidents and ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.

As campaigns intensify ahead of the polls, calls are growing louder for issue-based engagements rather than sabotage and intimidation. Observers insist that only a peaceful and competitive process will reflect the will of the people.

“The electorate should be allowed to make their decisions freely at the ballot box,” one activist said. “Let the people decide.”
