A United Kingdom-based Nigerian, Adesanya Oluwasegun, has shared his experience on how security agencies in Canada prioritize citizens’ safety and welfare, urging Nigeria to adopt similar policing standards.

In a recent post, Oluwasegun narrated how the Canadian police respond promptly to citizens in distress, even in seemingly minor situations such as vehicle breakdowns.

According to him, if a car breaks down at night, in an isolated area, or during bad weather, dialing 911 immediately prompts a police response. Officers are dispatched to stay with the affected individual until roadside assistance or a tow truck arrives, ensuring safety throughout the process.

He added that the officers provide calm and professional support without arguments or negative attitudes, describing it as an example of effective policing rooted in trust and responsibility.

Oluwasegun called on Nigerians not to take offense when comparisons are drawn between the country’s policing system and those of more developed nations. Instead, he said such reflections should motivate citizens to demand better governance and reforms within Nigeria’s law enforcement institutions.

“There are levels to this society thing. We have a long way to go as a people,” he said, stressing the need for Nigeria to aspire toward global best practices in law enforcement and citizen protection.
