Comrade Olayiwola Sulyman, popularly known as Opomulero, has criticised the widespread praises trailing the ₦100 million empowerment initiative recently announced by the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe, describing the reactions as a form of “modern slavery” in Kosofe and Nigeria.
Speaking with KosofePost on Tuesday, Opomulero expressed disappointment over the excitement of some residents and political loyalists who, according to him, failed to question accountability behind the initiative.
“The form of slavery in Kosofe and Nigeria is alarming ooo. Kilode? Who do us like this? See as data boys loyal to Moyo dey troop out all because of promise and economic power changing hands,” he said. “This is a mixed feeling about the level of orientation our people have. Honestly, we can’t grow past our knowledge and wisdom.”
He alleged that many political leaders exploit citizens’ economic struggles by using financial gestures to divert attention from governance and accountability.
“Political leaders know how to throw bananas at the monkeys, and the narrative will gradually change. Someone who could not properly account for monthly allocations came out to declare a ₦100 million empowerment, and everyone is going gaga, forgetting to demand accountability,” he added.
The activist also accused members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of double standards, recalling that the same individuals who had previously criticised Ogunlewe over alleged financial mismanagement are now celebrating the new empowerment initiative.
“Before the Ikosi-Isheri charity or giveaway, which some of us vehemently criticised, Moyo’s constituents and APC members condemned him for financial inappropriateness while praising the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Bada. Days down the line, the same people are celebrating a ₦100 million charity as empowerment,” he stated.
Opomulero further challenged KosofePost and residents to demand accountability by tracking the outcomes of past empowerment programmes in the area.
“Can KosofePost help citizens with the results of post-empowerment since all these politicians started empowerment? By now, we should have many entrepreneurs in Kosofe who employ others, create wealth, and help increase IGR. We need a detailed report of all empowerment results to know if these people are just siphoning public funds and dashing out 1% as hush money,” he concluded.
The comments add to the growing debate surrounding the ₦100 million initiative, which some residents have praised as a major welfare intervention while others question its transparency and long-term impact.
