A routine stop attempt by Leicestershire Police turned into a major multi-force operation that ended with the dramatic interception of a van carrying a large quantity of suspected cannabis.
Officers initially flagged the vehicle after linking it to a suspected cannabis grow, but the driver refused to stop and sped across the county border. Warwickshire’s Roads Policing Unit, supported by firearms officers, continued the pursuit along the M6, with additional backup from West Midlands Police.
The chase ended on the A38, where officers safely brought the van to a halt. Both occupants jumped out and attempted to flee on foot, sprinting down the carriageway in a bid to escape. They were quickly chased down and detained.
When officers opened the rear of the van, they were met with an avalanche of tightly packed black bags stacked from floor to roof and spilling onto the road. Inside, police found what is believed to be a significant haul of cannabis, along with mobile phones and cash—items consistent with organised drug operations.
Police commended the coordination between Leicestershire, Warwickshire, and West Midlands forces, describing the outcome as a major success in the effort to disrupt drug networks and maintain road safety.
Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
