The Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe, and supporters of the party establishment have reportedly embraced peace following mediation efforts aimed at resolving the lingering political crisis within the council.

According to feelers within the council, the Kosofe Legislative Arm may soon announce Hon. Sulyman Baruwa as the new Majority Leader.

The reconciliation meeting, chaired in April by Musiliu Obanikoro over the reported crisis in Kosofe Local Government, has continued to produce fresh political developments.

The meeting, held at Acme, was attended by Ogunlewe; the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Hon. Fatai Gbadebo; members of the Kosofe Legislative Arm; ward leaders; APC LGA stakeholders; and other party stakeholders.

KosofePost gathered that stakeholders at the meeting advised the G4 councillors loyal to the council chairman to internally resolve issues surrounding the alleged lopsided sharing of principal positions within the legislative arm, which reportedly favoured the G4 bloc, while the G3 councillors aligned with the party establishment were left with little or no representation after the removal of the former legislative leader.

Following the closed-door meeting, the G4 bloc reportedly conceded the position of Majority Leader to the G3 camp and also agreed to the swearing-in of the six outstanding Supervisory Councillors.

After the reconciliation meeting, the political gladiators reportedly visited the Lagos East APC Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) leader, Bushira Alebiosu, to brief him on the outcome of the deliberations and related developments.

It would be recalled that KosofePost earlier reported that after the first reconciliation meeting, the official vehicle of Councillor Oluwagbenga David, a member of the G3 bloc, was released.

However, it remains unclear whether Councillor David has been advised to withdraw the multiple petitions and legal cases instituted against the council chairman.

Sources further revealed that aside from David’s legal actions, there are still pending petitions and court matters involving a former Special Adviser on Boundary Matters to the council, Hon. Ganiu Oyebanjo, and the council chairman. The matter, which has lingered for a prolonged period, was reportedly not included within the scope of the reconciliation committee’s assignment.

Observers noted that although neither Ogunlewe nor supporters of the party establishment have publicly declared that peace has been fully restored, both camps have stopped exchanging words over issues bordering on accountability and transparency since the reconciliation efforts led by Obanikoro.

KosofePost will continue to monitor developments as events unfold.
