Residents and community leaders across the Ikorodu Federal Constituency have welcomed the official approval for the establishment of a Command Secondary School at the 174 Battalion in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The approval was announced by Hon. Babajimi Benson, the member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, who said he personally received the formal approval for the project.
The proposed school is expected to expand access to quality and affordable secondary education for children of military personnel, while also providing an important educational facility for families in surrounding civilian communities.
Benson: Project Will Invest in Ikorodu’s Future
Reacting to the development, Benson described the approval as evidence of what purposeful leadership can achieve when the needs of constituents are prioritised.
“For Ikorodu, this is a moment of excitement and gratitude,” Benson said. “Beyond serving military families, the school will be an important educational asset to the wider community. This is more than a school; it is an investment in our children, human capital, and the families of those who serve our nation.”
The lawmaker expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as his visionary leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also commended the Chief of Army Staff for prioritising the educational welfare of military families in line with the Nigerian Army’s command philosophy, while acknowledging Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support for educational development across the state.
Residents Welcome New Educational Facility
The announcement has generated positive reactions from residents and community stakeholders, many of whom described the project as a significant addition to Ikorodu’s educational infrastructure.
With the constituency experiencing population growth and increasing pressure on existing schools, residents said the new institution could help ease overcrowding and reduce the distance families travel in search of quality education.
Community member Dr. Adejuwon Segun described the initiative as an example of the connection between purposeful leadership, investment in education and sustainable community development.
He noted that the school would not only improve the welfare and morale of military families but also contribute to human capital development in Ikorodu and Lagos State.
Another resident, Temitope Taibat Kadiri, highlighted the potential relief for parents whose children currently travel considerable distances to access suitable schools.
She said the project would help reduce the stress associated with long-distance commuting, particularly for families seeking reliable and effective education for their children.
With the approval now secured, residents are looking forward to the commencement of the project and the eventual opening of the school as a centre for academic excellence, discipline and character development in Ikorodu.
