Residents of Oworonshoki, Lagos State, are preparing to stage a fresh protest over persistent power outages, accusing electricity authorities of failing to honour an agreement to provide at least 16 hours of electricity daily.

Community organisers have issued a notice for a peaceful re-protest scheduled for Thursday, October 22, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

According to a flyer circulated by community representatives, protesters will gather at Awanatu Junction and L&K Bus Stop to demand accountability over the continued power shortages.

The planned demonstration follows an earlier protest and an alleged agreement with electricity authorities to guarantee a minimum of 16 hours of daily power supply. Organisers say the commitment has not been fulfilled.

Residents Demand Reliable Power Supply

The community has outlined three major demands: immediate implementation of the 16-hour daily electricity pledge, transparent communication about power interruptions, and an end to persistent outages across Oworonshoki.

Organisers also expressed concern over what they described as “silent blackouts”, calling on the relevant authorities to provide timely information whenever electricity supply is disrupted.

They urged residents to participate peacefully in the protest, describing reliable electricity as essential to household welfare, businesses and community development.

The planned demonstration is expected to renew pressure on the relevant electricity authorities to address residents’ complaints and clarify when the promised supply hours will be implemented.

The electricity authorities’ response to the latest protest notice was not included in the information made available by the organisers.
