Honourable Ganiyu Oyebanjo, started active politics in 1998. He twice contested for Councillorship position in Anthony, under People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He won the three different primaries of the PDP. Since the PDP; boycotted elections in Lagos state, he was unable to go out for the proper election, due to the boycott.
He left the PDP in 2005, to join the Action Congress.He took an active role
in the campaign of former Governor Babatunde Fashola, by inviting him to Anthony to commission a borehole project he sunk for the public during (BRF) first term governorship campaign. In 2008, he came out to contest for councillorship under the Action Congress of Nigeria, he was denied the ticket for no just reason. Hence he moved to Democratic People’s Alliance (DPA), to actualise his aspiration and he became the candidate for DPA in his ward.
Before the election, he was invited by the elders of ACN in his ward, they pleaded with him to step down for Hon. Bayo Ogunsanwo, with a promise of an appointment in return, which was never given to him. He was also in the forefront of Hon Sofola and Hon Okla campaigns in Kosofe. His commitment and loyalty to the party, earned him the Senior Special Assistant on Religious Matters to the Executive Chairman Kosofe Local Government.
He has the combined honours of serving under two political stalwarts. He has represented his two bosses efficiently both in religious and non religious events. He has taken the State Government fight against noise pollution to several mosques and churches in the Local Government. He has always being a member of every committee set up by Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde Okanlawon.
Very recently, he started teaching Islamic studies to students of Ogudu grammar school, at the instance of Hon. Okla. He is doing this teaching, pro bono.
His first official assignment, as an SSA, was to help open a mosque in Dagunro street, Ojota, which was locked up by the officials of LASEPA. With the help of God, and his bosses he was able to get the mosque opened. The Executive Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Sofola, under trust, gave him the singular honour of distributing palliatives both in cash and foodstuffs to several party members, without anyone coming back to the Chairman with any complains.

Sentiments apart, GOCO is the best man for the Chairmanship seat of Kosofe Local Government.
