Hon.Okanlawon representing kosofe constituency 1, at the Lagos State house of Assembly has condemned the usage of drug abuse has it has diverse and devastating effects on the society such as negative social effect like violent crime, which was witnessed during year 2020 End SARs protest, disruption of valuable properties, child abuse etc.

This was said at the annual stakeholders meeting which was held at Mende Town Hall, Maryland Lagos.

The theme for this year’s event titled “increasing wave of drugs and Abuse: A threat to Nation Building.

According to OKLA who is the Chief Host of the event told the attendees of Kosofe who were present to relate with others such as parents, teachers, students, religious organizations and professional bodies, academia, civil society organization s and community leaders on the disturbing trend of drug abuse in the society.

The danger which it portends for the youth and our existence cannot be underestimated in anyway. He said.

The sensitization stressed the fact that illicit drugs when used in excessive amount are harmful to individuals.

Furthermore, it’s effect can also be associated with gangsterism, cultism, armed robbery, rape and other social disturbances.

This cannot be overemphasized economically and health wise. It can lead to loss of job, dropping our of school, stealing, and negative misbehavior. While liver damage of such individual, changes in appetite, weight loss, mental confusion and memory loss are just few effects it has on individual health wise.

Hon. Okanlawon pointed out the fact that menace of drug abuse had long been a source of grave concern to the Leadership and members of the House of Assembly which the house had collectively in year 2019 debated and passed various resolutions to address the issues such as “The Need to curb the sales and Consumption of Hazardous Liquid Substances in the state.

However in 2020, resolution was passed which called on the state government to Embark on Anti drug Campaign for all secondary schools in Lagos State.

Finally, OKLA hereby enjoined and advised all present at the stakeholder’s meeting to serve as Watchdogs by putting all preventive and precaution measure in place to curb the increasing wave of these drug abuse which are really a serious threat to Nation Building and to the general public.

Continuing, he gave a mid term report of account of stewardship which stakeholders party members and followers of Hon Okanlawon within the constituency were impressed with his Administrative style of Governance. He thanked everyone for attending this year’s event.

Among the dignitaries in attendance are: Member, Governor’s Advisory Council, Omoba Olumuyiwa Sosanya, Executive chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Moyo Ogunlewe, Vice Chairman, Prince Babatunde Saliu, Musiliu Aigoro, Adedeji Busayo, Councillors, APC Party Leaders, APC Party Members, Political Associates, CDC/CDA Members, friends, family members and well-wishers.
