LGNA Celebrates 12th Anniversary In Style

The promotion of good Governance and excellent in public administration is largely affected by what you do, and better yet, how you do it. This describes the signature event put together by the management of LGNA Academy as it rolled out the drums at Lagos Sheraton Hotel, to host Head of Service, Local Government service commission, Local Council Chairmen, Council Managers, Government agencies, private organizations, friends, for the company’s 12th-anniversary celebration.

The event which paraded the crème de la crème in the public sector also have the member representing Apapa Federal Constituency in the lower chamber of the National Assembly, Hon. Mufutau Egberongbe Lagos Head of Service represented by Director General, Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Dr. Ajose-Harrison, Representatives of Nigeria Financial Intelligence Units ( NFIU), GM. Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, Mr. Solebo Fola, Local Government service commission, Hon. Kamal Baiyewu, Former Chairman LGSC, Alhaji Babatunde Rontiwa, Executive of Egbe Idimu Lcda, Hon. Sanya -Olu Olowopajo, Yaba Lcda, Kayode Omiyale, Permanent Board Member Subeb Hon. Bayo Adefuye, Conference 57 Council Managers Chairman and Ikosi Isheri Lcda Head of Administration, Prince Sunday Olujobi, Mushin LGA Council Treasurer, Oluwatoyin Deborah, among others in attendance.

The anniversary celebration was also an avenue used by the organizers to highlight the many achievements and additions its innovative leadership development and values have offered in the last 12 years, and also a day of merriment and testimonies.

In her welcome remarks, LGNA Manager, Ifeoma Okafor, said in twelve years LGNA have hosted over sixty lectures, seminar, and capacity building sessions.

“In the course of our 12 years of existence, Two thousands and ten participants from public and private institutions have attended our platform’s of Awards of excellence presented to various Public Officers who have distinguished themselves in their official obligations.

“More than a hundred technocrats, academicians, public Office holders have delivered papers on the LGNA platforms.”

“LGNA has gradually grown into a state and national brand. It is set to go global as it continues to improve and consolidates on it services and establishing more Progressives partnerships.”

Speaking at the event, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri- Okunola, Lagos Head of Service represented by Director General, Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Dr. Ajose-Harrison, said he was excited as LGNews celebrate 12 years of quality public service, building capacity and calling public service stakeholders to action on issue of good Governance in public administration.

He noted that the Lagos State public service are reeling from the activities of LGN News towards building a strong public service that deliver Sustainable services

Just to 12 years, LGNews seems to have been around the public service. Notably, joining the leadership of the various sectors of the Local Government and Local Council Development Area to chat the course of development and setting the agenda for good Governance at that level.

“It’s also salutary to note that LGNews is making new roads into the mainstream Civil service. The real partnership we welcome to compliment the capacity building strive of our PSSDC, and other capacity building course in Lagos State,” Muri Okunola noted.

While acknowledging the significance of the LGNA awards presented to the head of public service, said will spurred them for a greater achievement.

He reassured that Lagos Stat will continue to work hard towards supporting training courses including the Government agencies of trainings to continue to meet the bar and rise the bar of excellence in public service.

He reiterated that the Award given to the Head of Service and others will spur Lagos State Government to a greater habit of ensuring that they have capacity building as number one in anything they will do.” So many other States have contacted Lagos State on how capacity building is done,” He said.

“The government themes Agenda execution and implementation has been a reference point among other states of the federation, The head of service,” Hakeem Muri Okunola noted.

While Congratulating Mr. Tunde Jakande the Management of LGNEWS on its 12 years anniversary said the Award given to the Head of Service will be dedicated to over hundred thousands selfless public service officers who have been providing public goods and services to the citizenry of Lagos State.

Former Executive Chairman of Ajeronmi Ifelodun Local Government, and current Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Hon kamal Baiyewu, who a
Special guest at the event advised public officers especially those at the third tier of government to adopt more creative approaches to solving administrative issues and to pay more attention to customer service.

He further advised public officers to be conscious of their environment and build a reputation of being dependable.

Also, The former Local Government Service Commission Chairman, Alhaji Babatunde Rontiwa, who was a special guest at the occasion
was filled with great enthusiasm on the landmark achievement by LGNA commended the organization for the success it had attained.

Babatunde Rotinwa noted that the third tier of government has begun to make progress, while urging stakeholders to give the people the opportunity to decide what they want from government.

“I am a happy man today because the local government are doing fantastic well. We have been talking, advising, holding seminars, lectures, workshops, Conferences that you work with the people. Local Government must plan with the people, not plan for the people.”

He noted further that recently in the news, the Local Government were seen taken their budget to the people to plan with the people to seek for their needs.

While referencing to the development strides in the UAE and devolution of power to Local Government in Tokyo, he enjoined Local Government Executives to work towards living world standard legacy projects in their various Local Councils.

The highlights of LGNA 12 years Anniversary Celebration was the induction ceremony of distinguished Local Government Chairmen, Council Managers, Public service Officers into LGNA hall of fame for excellence.
