LAWMAKER ADMONISHED RESIDENTS TO OBTAIN THEIR PVC

To intimate the public on the journey so far, the lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency 1 at the Lagos state House of Assembly called for a stakeholders’ meeting with the theme “2023 General Election: The Imperatives Of Permanent Voters’ Card.”

The historic event, held at Mende Town Hall, was attended by dignitaries from all walks of life, as well as the executive chairman of Kosofe LGA. Bar Moyosore Ogunlewe was ably represented by the vice chairman, Omooba Sosanya Junior.

Apex leaders in the person of BABA Bush and Baba Sosanya, who, for one reason or the other, couldn’t make the event, sent in their representatives to grace the occasion.

Other dignitaries in attendance were the League of Imams, Party Stalwarts, Christian leaders, community leaders, and councillors within Kosofe LGA.

He said the meeting is a step in the right direction geared towards enlightening the public on the importance of Permanent Voter Cards and why residents should participate in the electoral process.
 
In his opening remarks, the Chief Host, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, said it is pertinent for every Nigerian to obtain their permanent voter cards ahead of the polls.

He made this remark at the just concluded 8th stakeholders meeting organised by the 9th assembly, which runs concurrently across the 40 constituents in Lagos state.

His message was distinct and clear, with an emphasis on getting prepared for the next general election coming up in 2023, adding that it’s the core responsibility of Nigerians to decide their leaders and who would represent them across various elective posts.

He, however, appreciated the All Progressives Congress members for supporting the presidential bid of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who recently clinched the primary ticket.

In the addendum, Okanlawon further stated that work has started and members must continue with their advocacy in sensitizing the public that PVCs are the surest way to elect leaders and not through any other means.

Addressing participants on the occasion, the permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, Dr Shakirudeen Olayiwola, affirmed his position that once “you’re 18 years and above, you have a right to vote.” 

He stated categorically that about 20 million people across Nigeria are yet to obtain their permanent voter cards.

He noted that the desired change we expect to see can only be achievable if every individual, through conscious effort, participates in the electioneering process. 

He appealed to all and sundry to visit the nearest Inec Collection centre to register, collect their cards and vote.

During the interactive session, stakeholders across Kosofe spoke about certain issues affecting their locality, which center on road infrastructure, quality health care, security, education, and employment opportunities for youths. 

Reacting to some of the issues raised, Okanlawon assured the populace that he would continue to facilitate more projects for his people, stating that his utmost joy is to see his constituents enjoy basic amenities in their comfort zone. 

Speaking with reporters, Okanlawon said Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Ambition is a sure deal.

He noted that Tinubu will deliver a lot for Nigerians, while assuring residents of Kosofe Constituency 1 that more projects are on the way. 

The permanent secretary, in an interview, also advised residents to obtain their permanent voter cards, stating that Nigeria will be great again if youths and adults are actively involved in the electioneering process. 

The Okla singers couldn’t hide their joy as they danced and wined with their principal, who would be returning for a second term in office. 

After a great time at Mende Town Hall, the program came to a close with the vice chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Honourable Oluwole Sosanya giving the vote of thanks amidst singing, dancing, and excitement.
