Lanre Carew abruptly left the Progressive Congress (APC) and ran as a Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, threatening the party’s chances of retaining Kosofe constituency 1.
The incumbent lawmakers representing Kosofe constituency 1, Honourable Sanni Ganiu Okanlawon, Gabriel Oluwafemi, Akerelu Shobaloju, and Lanre Carew, contested for the controversial state assembly ticket on the platform of APC which Okanlawon was declared as the winner.

The APC’s nomination of Okanlawon was met with widespread opposition from Carew, his co-contestants, and their supporters.
Carew’s resignation from APC, his emergence as SDP candidate according to the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) House of State Candidates across the nation on Tuesday , October 4, finally revealed that he will be on the ballot box on another platform, as widely reported by Kosofe Post.
KP reports that the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) an electronic device designed to read Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and authenticate voters – using the voters’ fingerprints – in order to prove that they are eligible to vote at a particular polling unit, will pose a serious threat to political parties’ attempts to rig the election.
