In a bid to harness the untapped tourism potential at the grassroots level, LGNA International’s CEO, Tunde Jakande, has announced the dates for a five-day international retreat titled “International Seminar on Developing Tourism Potentials at the Third Tier of Government in Kenya.” The retreat is set to take place from October 3 to 8 in Kenya.

The announcement, released by LGNA over the weekend, highlighted the approval of His Excellency Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, to create a tourism unit in all local government councils in Lagos. This initiative aims to enhance tourism in the state, especially at the grassroots level. Jakande praised the Governor’s vision, acknowledging the vast tourism potential of Lagos.

Jakande emphasized that tourism encompasses various aspects such as arts, culture, festivals, and physical structures. Drawing attention to the success stories of Egypt and Kenya, which have generated hundreds of millions of dollars from tourism, he expressed the need for Lagos to explore its own tourism potential.

The upcoming LGNA Five Day International Retreat on Tourism, Development, and Leadership aims to provide a valuable learning experience for heads of tourism units in councils and other stakeholders, including officers in the environment department. The retreat will shed light on how tourism functions in Kenya, leveraging the expertise gained from Jakande’s two visits to the country.

Additionally, it was announced that the second batch of the five-day international retreat on effective leadership and actualizing excellence in public administration will now be held in Drogheda, Ireland, from September 3 to 8, 2023. Jakande encouraged interested participants to secure their spots by registering and initiating visa applications. Contact details were provided for inquiries and further information.

With these international retreats, LGNA International aims to foster knowledge exchange, facilitate networking opportunities, and empower local government officials to unleash the full potential of tourism, leadership, and development in their respective regions.
