Publisher and community leader, Mogaji Wole Arisekola, has applauded the Republic of Ireland for sustaining strong bilateral relations with Nigeria and for recognizing the professionalism and expertise of Nigerian citizens.

Arisekola made the remarks during an exclusive chat with KosofePost on Monday, following his recent visit to the European Union Compound in Abuja, where he met with Ireland’s Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Peter Ryan, alongside other EU diplomats.

He described the engagement as productive and insightful, noting that Ireland’s diplomatic footprint in Nigeria continues to expand.

“I learned that the Republic of Ireland now has one of the largest consular offices in Nigeria, and interestingly, all the contractors who built the new Irish Embassy in Abuja are Nigerians,” Arisekola said. “This clearly shows that Ireland recognizes and appreciates the intellectual and professional capacity of Nigerians.”

Reflecting on the historical bond between both nations, Arisekola recalled the impact of Irish missionaries in Nigeria’s educational and moral development. He lamented that insecurity and terrorism have drastically reduced their presence from over 200 priests two decades ago to about six today.

“We must remember that these Irish priests built schools at no cost for less privileged communities and shaped the lives of many Nigerians in profound ways,” he added. “May God bless them for their sacrifices and contributions.”

A photo from the meeting shows Mogaji Wole Arisekola, Ambassador Peter Ryan, and Hon. Olawale Aganga. Ambassador Ryan currently represents Ireland in Nigeria and is also accredited to Togo, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
