Thousands of Okpe indigenes resident in the South-West geopolitical zone are set to converge in Lagos on Sunday, December 28, 2025, for the 2025 Okpe Union end-of-year festivity aimed at promoting Okpe civilization, history, language and culture.
In a statement issued in Lagos, the South-West Deputy President General of Okpe Union, Engineer Francis Redemi, said the event is designed to project Okpe civilization, culture and humanism to the global community while reinforcing unity within the Okpe Kingdom.
Redemi stressed the enduring values of the Okpe people and the collective responsibility of present leaders to both their ancestors and future generations. He noted that the union considers it a duty to support the education of Okpe indigenes, including the provision of bursaries to students across Nigeria.
According to him, the celebration will foster full and brotherly cooperation among Okpe indigenes living in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun and Ondo states, and will serve as a rich display of Okpe heritage.
“We are concerned about the past, what is taking place today, what should take place tomorrow and what should make the future of Okpe Kingdom more happy and prosperous,” Redemi said.
The event, scheduled to commence at 3:00 pm at the Okpe Union House, 65 Moshalashi Street, Obalende, Lagos, will also underscore the importance of youth education and the role of the union in creating opportunities for Okpe sons and daughters to live fulfilling lives.
Emphasising the need for forward-looking planning, Redemi said Okpe children deserve quality education and that deliberate action must be taken to secure the future of the kingdom through broader and progressive ideas.
He added that this year’s ceremony reflects a strong commitment to preserving ancestral identity, respecting the character and institutions of the Okpe Kingdom, encouraging positive thinking and constructive action, and supporting Okpe students in tertiary institutions.
According to the statement, the event will also reaffirm unity among Okpe people and their shared resolve to build a more prosperous and inclusive future for the kingdom.
