The coincidence of the 2026 Ash Wednesday and Ramadan commencing on the same day has prompted an outpouring of goodwill messages across religious divides, with political and community leaders in Lagos State calling for unity, devotion and peaceful coexistence.

Osinowo Congratulates Muslim Faithful

Dr. Babatunde Osinowo, Managing Director of NIMCO Group, congratulated the Muslim Ummah in Lagos State, particularly residents of Kosofe Local Government, on the start of Ramadan.

In his message, Osinowo described Ramadan as a sacred period of fasting, devotion, self-purification and heightened consciousness of the Creator. He noted that the holy month offers an opportunity for sincere repentance, increased recitation of the Qur’an, steadfast prayers and acts of charity.

He urged Muslims to embrace the discipline and mercy associated with the season, strengthen their faith, uphold justice, promote peace and extend compassion to the less privileged. Osinowo also called on the faithful to use the period to pray for unity, stability and continued progress in Lagos State and Nigeria, while thanking Almighty Allah for the privilege of witnessing another Ramadan.

Okanlawon Calls for Unity and Reflection

Similarly, Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde Okanlawon, member representing Kosofe Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, extended Ramadan Kareem greetings to Muslim faithful across the constituency and the state.

In his goodwill message, Okanlawon encouraged Muslims to see the holy month as a time for deep self-reflection, spiritual growth and personal renewal, while strengthening bonds of unity, harmony and understanding within families and the wider community.

He stressed the importance of kindness, generosity and charity as core Ramadan values necessary for peaceful coexistence and a compassionate society. The lawmaker prayed that Almighty Allah grants the faithful good health and strength throughout the fasting period and blesses Lagos State and Nigeria with peace, prosperity and continued progress.

Observers note that the overlapping observance of Ash Wednesday and Ramadan this year symbolically underscores shared values of sacrifice, prayer and spiritual renewal among people of different faiths.
