A fresh political development is unfolding in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State as Benson Adepoju, a Supervisory Councillor nominee, has declared his intention to contest for the Kosofe Constituency I seat in the 2027 general elections.

Adepoju, who is among six nominees yet to be sworn into office, announced his ambition despite the delay in his official assumption of duty. While 11 other nominees have already been inaugurated and are currently serving, the remaining appointments are reportedly stalled due to unresolved political and legal issues within the local government.

Amid the uncertainty, early signs of Adepoju’s campaign have begun to emerge on social media, indicating efforts to position himself ahead of the electoral cycle.

Sources within the All Progressives Congress (APC) suggest that Adepoju previously enjoyed the backing of influential party stakeholders, including members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, which may have played a role in his nomination as Supervisory Councillor. However, it remains unclear whether he retains the same level of support for his legislative bid.

Adepoju is also believed to have close ties with Lanre Carew, Chief Executive Officer of Farmcity International, who contested for the same seat under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 general elections. While speculation persists about possible political alignment, there has been no official confirmation of Carew’s support for Adepoju’s current ambition.

His declaration adds to the growing list of aspirants within the APC, further intensifying competition ahead of the 2027 elections. The incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon, is also reportedly preparing to seek a third term, setting the stage for a potentially keenly contested primary within the party.

Political observers say the evolving dynamics in Kosofe point to an early phase of strategic alignments and internal negotiations, as aspirants position themselves for advantage in the coming electoral cycle.
