Omoba Adeyinka Oyediran has formally declared his intention to contest for the Kosofe Constituency II seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, further intensifying political activities within the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Oyediran, a longstanding member of the APC, is a familiar figure in Kosofe politics, having previously contested for elective positions at both the state assembly and local council levels. His past attempts, however, were unsuccessful, with political analysts attributing the outcomes largely to internal party dynamics, including candidate selection processes and the influence of party leadership.

His most recent bid was during the 2025 Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) chairmanship race, where he contested against the incumbent chairman, Hon. Samiat Abolanle Bada. The race was eventually halted following an executive directive issued by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which fixed the commencement date for the new local government administration, effectively ending the aspirations of several contenders, including Oyediran.

Beyond the directive, party insiders noted that key APC stakeholders in Kosofe Federal Constituency had aligned behind the incumbent, limiting opportunities for alternative aspirants to gain traction.

Despite these setbacks, recent developments within the APC—particularly discussions around the adoption of a direct primary system—have renewed optimism among aspirants. The model is widely perceived as offering a more open platform for candidates with strong grassroots support to test their popularity, provided the process is transparent and credible.

Observers say Oyediran’s renewed ambition comes at a time when political alignments within Kosofe are shifting, with multiple aspirants positioning themselves across constituencies ahead of 2027.

However, analysts caution that beyond grassroots appeal, success in the race will likely depend on strategic endorsements from influential party figures, including members of the APC’s Governors Advisory Council (GAC) and other key stakeholders within the constituency.

As the election cycle approaches, political watchers note that internal party cohesion, the credibility of the primary process, and the ability of aspirants to mobilize support at the grassroots level will be critical in determining the eventual candidate and outcome of the race.
