The race for the House of Representatives seat in Kosofe Federal Constituency has taken a new turn following the entry of Yetunde Arobieke, former Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA and former Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment.
Arobieke’s decision to join the contest has heightened political activities within the All Progressives Congress (APC), while drawing renewed attention to the increasingly competitive battle surrounding the seat currently occupied by Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, who is seeking re-election.
Political observers say Arobieke’s entrance may have effectively narrowed the chances of a consensus arrangement among aspirants, making a direct primary more likely ahead of the party’s May 18 primaries.
Among the prominent contenders is former Agboyi-Ketu LCDA Chairman, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, whose campaign has continued to gather momentum across the constituency. Oshinowo has reportedly secured growing grassroots support, with endorsements and mobilisation efforts visible across different parts of Kosofe.
Analysts suggest that the emergence of several high-profile aspirants reflects broader internal contestation within the party, as stakeholders weigh competing interests and political alignments ahead of the primaries.
Some party watchers argue that the current intensity of the race underscores shifting power dynamics within Kosofe APC, with influential actors and local blocs increasingly asserting their preferences.
Although the APC has often maintained an informal culture of supporting first-term lawmakers for a second term, recent developments suggest that convention may face a significant test in Kosofe as multiple aspirants push for an open contest.
With the primary election drawing closer, the Kosofe Federal Constituency race is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched contests within Lagos APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
