Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and civil society groups across the Kosofe Federal Constituency have continued to congratulate Mayor Dele Oshinowo following his confirmation as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer for the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The confirmation by the Lagos State chapter of the APC has generated reactions from community stakeholders and advocacy groups, many of whom urged the candidate to prioritise grassroots development, inclusive governance, and sustained public engagement.

“Victory Is a Call to Service”

Among those who reacted was Omoba Rasheed Ololade Awofeso, founder of the Children and Community Protection Network (CCPN), who described Oshinowo’s emergence as an opportunity for public service rather than political celebration.

According to Awofeso, elected representatives must remain connected to the people beyond election periods.

“This victory should be regarded as a call to duty and an opportunity to make a positive impact,” he said.

He added that democratic leadership requires accountability, accessibility, and commitment to delivering tangible benefits to constituents.

“Staying connected with the people should remain a top priority—not only during election periods, but throughout your time in office. Democracy is a serious responsibility, not mere celebration or fanfare,” he stated.

Humanitarian Forum Outlines Expectations

The Ta’awunu Humanitarian Forum also congratulated Oshinowo, describing his victory in the APC primary as evidence of his grassroots political strength and popularity across Kosofe.

In a statement jointly signed by regional coordinators Ridwan Asekunola (Kosofe LG), Muibi Nurain (Ikosi-Isheri LCDA), Taiwo Adekunle (Agboyi-Ketu LCDA), and the forum’s president, Taiwo Lasisi, the group urged the APC candidate to begin developing a long-term socio-economic and political blueprint for the constituency.

The group also advised him to sustain humanitarian activities, embrace inclusive governance, and study both the successes and shortcomings of previous representatives.

According to the forum, meaningful representation requires strategic planning, broad consultation, and policies that directly respond to community realities.

Focus Shifts to General Election

Political observers say the reactions from civil society groups reflect growing public interest in the direction of representation within the Kosofe Federal Constituency ahead of the next general election.

With the APC primary process concluded, attention is gradually shifting toward how candidates intend to translate campaign promises and political goodwill into practical legislative agendas capable of addressing local development challenges.
