An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos, has ordered the remand of two men over alleged involvement in cult-related activities and attempted murder.

The defendants, Olayemi Abdulquadri (22) and Kelechi Olisemeke (28), are facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, membership of an unlawful society, attempted murder, unlawful possession of live cartridges, and possession of criminal charms.

According to the prosecution, led by Supol Josephine Ikhayere, the alleged offences occurred on May 26 at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo campus. She told the court that the defendants, alongside others still at large, invaded the university premises with dangerous weapons and attempted to kill an unidentified individual during the attack.

The prosecution further alleged that the accused persons are members of the Neo Black Movement of Africa, also known as Black Axe or Aye, which is classified as a proscribed organisation under Lagos State’s Unlawful Societies and Cultism Prohibition Law.

Ikhayere also informed the court that the defendants were found in possession of two live cartridges and criminal charms at the time of the incident.

The charges, she said, contravene relevant provisions of Lagos State criminal and anti-cultism laws.

The defendants were arraigned before Magistrate Lateef Owolabi, and upon their plea, the court ordered that they be remanded in a correctional facility.

The matter was adjourned until July 1 for mention and further proceedings.
