A controversy has emerged at the Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Secretariat following conflicting accounts of an incident involving Ward B (Shangisha-Magodo) Councillor, Hon. Ayoola Shobanke.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, July 2, has generated public attention after allegations of intimidation were met with a strong rebuttal from the council administration.
According to an earlier report by Ijoba-Ibile TV, Shobanke alleged that she was harassed and threatened by suspected hoodlums while attempting to attend a legislative plenary session. The report claimed she feared for her safety, locked herself in her office, and later contacted the Ketu Police Division, whose officers reportedly escorted her out of the council premises.
The report also alleged that the councillor had not been assigned cleaning staff since assuming office, raising broader concerns about her treatment within the council.
However, the Ikosi-Isheri LCDA has rejected the allegations, describing them as misleading and politically motivated.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information to the Executive Chairman, Lukman Aminu, the council said the visit to Shobanke’s office was simply an effort by the Leader of the House, Majority Leader, Clerk, and other councillors to invite her to participate in the day’s legislative sitting.
“The Council Leader, Majority Leader, the Clerk, and fellow councillors proceeded to her office not to threaten or confront her, but to ascertain her welfare and respectfully invite her to participate in the legislative sitting,” the statement said.
The administration maintained that video footage in its possession showed a calm interaction and denied any form of intimidation or harassment. It also disputed claims regarding the absence of cleaning services, stating that routine maintenance could not be carried out because the councillor’s office was frequently locked.
The council further alleged that Shobanke has missed several official engagements since assuming office about four months ago.
Despite its denial, the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, has directed that a formal investigation be conducted into the incident.
According to the council, the investigation is intended to ensure transparency, accountability, and the safety of elected officials and staff members.
The outcome of the probe is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident, which has drawn attention to tensions within the local council. At the time of reporting, the investigation was ongoing, and no official findings had been released.
