Four people sustained severe burn injuries after a fire destroyed property at the popular Bolla scavengers’ dump site in the Ajelogo area of Mile 12, Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Wednesday.

The fire reportedly broke out around 1:40 p.m. on November 4, 2026, and was noticed about 18 minutes later, at approximately 1:58 p.m.

Emergency responders, including personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, arrived at the scene around 2:30 p.m. to contain the blaze.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire may have started from an unattended cooking setup inside one of the makeshift structures at the settlement.

A resident was reportedly asleep while preparing food, allowing the flames to spread to nearby structures. The hot weather conditions were also said to have contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

Although the incident destroyed property worth thousands of naira, no fatalities were reported.

The four injured residents were rescued and taken to Gbagada General Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring communities. Emergency agencies are continuing to monitor the affected area.
