Omo’ba Awofeso Rasheed Ololade has called on religious institutions across Nigeria to integrate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives into their operations, stressing the need to prioritize community welfare during the country’s ongoing economic challenges.
Speaking to KosofePost, Awofeso highlighted the importance of faith-based organisations in supporting vulnerable members of their congregations.
“All worship centres must have good welfare packages for their vulnerable members. They should also maintain counselling services to understand the plight of their followers so that help can be provided within their capacity. Worship centres should not be seen merely as money collection institutions but as places of refuge and compassion,” he said.
He expressed concern over the rising poverty levels in many communities, noting that economic hardship has left numerous Nigerians struggling to meet basic needs.
“The level of poverty in our communities is beyond imagination,” Awofeso lamented. “Genuine empathy and practical support from religious bodies could make a significant difference in people’s lives.”
The advocate urged churches, mosques, and other worship centres to go beyond spiritual guidance by implementing programmes that address social, economic, and welfare needs, particularly for the most disadvantaged members of their communities.
