Ola Fashola has called out what he described as the neglect of important road projects in both Lagos and Ogun States, urging Nigerians to hold all governors accountable for infrastructure failures.

In a post on Facebook on Monday evening, Fashola warned citizens not to focus their criticism solely on Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, over the state’s “useless roads,” but to also “save some nails” for Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.”

He highlighted the dilapidated condition of Awolowo Road, popularly known as Baiyeku Road, which links Igbogbo and Baiyeku towns in the Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA of Ikorodu, Lagos. According to Fashola, the road—less than 10 kilometres long—has been under construction “since time immemorial,” despite serving several residential estates, including those named after the late Oba Adeboruwa of Igbogbo and former Deputy Governor Prince Abiodun Ogunleye.

Fashola lamented that Nigerian governors often prioritise development in state capitals while suburban and peri-urban communities are largely neglected, receiving attention only during election periods. He also thanked the creator of a viral video documenting the road’s state for “bringing this to the limelight.”

The post has sparked wide conversations online, raising questions about government priorities and the state of infrastructure in both Lagos and Ogun States.
