Residents of Oworonshoki and the wider Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State have been thrown into mourning following the death of the Kosofe Widows Coordinator, Mrs. Adetoun Edu.
Mrs. Edu reportedly passed away on January 4, 2026, after a prolonged illness. Details of the illness were not disclosed by her family.

The late community leader was widely recognised for her tireless advocacy for widows and vulnerable children across Kosofe. In her role as Widows Coordinator, she was deeply involved in grassroots mobilisation, counselling, and the facilitation of welfare and support interventions for widows within the community.
Since the news of her passing broke, tributes have continued to pour in from widows’ associations, child rights advocates, community leaders and residents, many of whom described her as a compassionate organiser and selfless humanitarian whose work touched countless lives.
Mourners noted that her commitment to social justice, empathy for the vulnerable and dedication to community development earned her respect beyond Oworonshoki, leaving behind a legacy defined by service, empowerment and care for the less privileged.
Mrs. Edu is survived by her family members and a wide community of widows and beneficiaries who continue to draw inspiration from the causes she championed. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
