Kosofe Leaders Commended for Empowering Widows on International Widow’s Day

On the occasion of the 2021 International Widow’s Day, the Coordinator of the Progressives Window Initiative in Kosofe, Mrs. Edu Adetoun, has expressed her gratitude and admiration for the efforts of Honorable Sanni Okanlawon, the Member of the House of Assembly representing Kosofe constituency 1, and Mr. Moyo Ogunlewe, the Chairman of Kosofe Local Government. These individuals have been recognized as the backbone of the organization, which aims to support widows and alleviate their struggles.

International Widow’s Day, observed annually on June 23, serves as a reminder of the hardships faced by women who endure exploitation, deprivation, and persecution following the death of their husbands. In a telephone interview with the principal correspondent of the Kosofe Post, Mrs. Edu Adetoun shared her heartfelt appreciation for being alive and acknowledged the support she has received.

Expressing her gratitude, Mrs. Adetoun stated, “I give glory to Almighty God for keeping me alive. I am also thankful that Honorable Sanni Okanlawon was reelected to his seat. Additionally, we are fortunate to have a charismatic and dynamic leader in Barrister Moyo Ogunlewe as the Kosofe Local Government Chairman. May God continue to bless him with wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to carry out his duties successfully.”

Mrs. Adetoun emphasized the instrumental role played by Sanni Okanlawon, Moyo Ogunlewe, and Engr. Abiodun Owokoya, popularly known as Abbey Cheche, in the Progressives Window Initiative of Lagos State. She fervently prayed for the trio, asking that God meet all their needs and bless them abundantly for their generosity. She further appealed to the Lagos State Government, Kosofe Local Government Chairman, Members of the State and National Assembly, and other public stakeholders to empower widows through various means.

Recognizing the profound impact of losing a loved one, Mrs. Adetoun stressed the importance of the public’s involvement in assisting vulnerable and economically disadvantaged widows. She called for support in areas such as healthcare, material resources, spiritual guidance, and financial aid, urging everyone to treat widows with respect and dignity.
