Comrade Abdulwaheed Odunuga, the 2022 New Nigeria People’s Party candidate for Kosofe Federal constituency, has stirred controversy by alleging that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is responsible for 90% of election violence in Kosofe.

Odunuga’s assertion came in response to comments made by Salami, who claimed that the last general election in Kosofe was peaceful and free from violence. However, Odunuga dismissed Salami’s remarks, suggesting that Salami may be referring to a different Kosofe altogether.

“It seems my brother, Oloye Salami, is talking about another Kosofe, not our own Kosofe,” Odunuga remarked. “I assert that more than 90% of the violence during the last election and previous elections in Kosofe were perpetrated by APC, their commercial thugs, and their supporters.”

While Odunuga’s statement raised eyebrows, Salami played down the allegations, attributing them to mere opposition perspectives about the ruling party in Kosofe. He maintained that his party members are peaceful and that the last general election was devoid of violence to the best of his knowledge.

“Hence, to the best of my ability, the last general election was peaceful and free from any form of violence,” Salami stated. “Meanwhile, the opposition will continue to cry foul in Kosofe after the election until they put their house in order, which I doubt the possibility.”

The contentious issue of election violence in Kosofe resurfaced in light of recent incidents, including attacks on the campaign train of People Democratic Party Lagos State Governorship candidate, Olajide Abdulazeez AKA Jandor, and the destruction of campaign materials belonging to Abdulwaheed Odunuga and others across the Kosofe Federal constituency.
