15 Arrested Over Attempt To Burn Lagos Fruit Market

The police in Lagos have arrested 15 suspects for trying to burn down the popular Ikosi/Ketu fruit market.

The suspects who are members of a cult gang, Aiye Confraternity, had also tried to set fire to some property and shops within the vicinity of the market.

The police said most of those arrested had been on their wanted list for crimes committed within and outside the area.


Items recovered from the hoodlums included two locally made pistols, cartridges and charms.

It was learnt that the suspects, along with others at large, broke into the market around 6.am on Wednesday and engaged the security men on duty in a fight.

The Lagos Commissioner of Police (CP), Hakeem Odumosu, said a team of policemen was dispatched to the market when information about the attack was received.

The CP explained that, “Those arrested are Kazeem Olayiwola, Lekan Kuyu, Roti Azeez, Sikiru Idayi, Michael Odofin, Chisom Nelson, Taofeek Lawal, Sunday Ogunleye, Lucky Ohonsin, Isiaka Fijabi, Muritala Akinwale and Mujida Latifat.”
