The residents of the Araromi Community area of Kosofe Local Government, Lagos State, have appealed to the Lagos State government and the Kosofe Local Council to fix a damaged culvert and road along Shakiru Oriola Street, in Ifako Gbagada.

Pepper sellers, residents, tricycle operators, and Mini Suzuki bus “Korope” operators plying the route decried the deplorable condition of the major road linking the Third Mainland Bridge, the Oshodi Apapa Expressways, and connecting several streets within the Araromi Community.
They appealed to the government to provide palliative care to alleviate their suffering.
A resident, James Ochei Speaking to the Kosofe Post on the spot on Tuesday, the company engaged the service of unskilled labor to clear debris in a damaged culvert affecting the flow of water from their drainage system and said the issue of the affected portion is beyond their capacity.
He noted that different people who claimed to be representatives of the government have visited Oriola Street and taken pictures countless times without any solution.
James Ochei explained this: “The culvert here just broke down. This place has been very bad for a long time. Some other people came and snapped that they will get back the report as at that time it was not even as bad as this, just a little bit then, and we tried to fix it with sand and other things, but now it gets worse.”
He added further, “Even the sand we asked the boys to use, the thing just sinks with the sand. So, the place is very bad now, and we don’t know how to go about it.”
He appealed to the government to fix a failed portion of the road to prevent imminent environmental hazards. He said, “The government should try and come to help us even then, when it was even blocking the gutter; the gutter could not even flow, so that gutter will be free. If there’s rain now, it will affect the building within, so the government should do something concerning it.”
A pepper seller around the spot, Mrs. Dupe Isa, whom several motorists hit while trying to navigate the bad road, collaborated with James’ assertions. said, “This road is very bad. I appeal to the government to help us fix it because there is no road for motorists to pass and save my daily source of earnings.”
Reacting to the development, the Chief Press Secretary to Kosofe Local Government Chairman, Taiwo Fadipe, said on Thursday morning, when contacted, that he will consult the council engineer.
He said, “I’ll get back to you with more details as soon as I discuss them with the council engineer.”
As of press time, he is yet to respond.
