Residents of Kosofe Local Government Area in Lagos State are appealing to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly Deputy Speakership to Kosofe for equal distribution of political positions across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

While President-elect, Ashiwaju Bola Tinubu, has shown his preferred candidates for Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker, and Deputy Speaker, the Lagos State Chapter of APC and Governor-elect, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, and the Governor’s Advisory Council are yet to make any categorical statement ahead of the June official proclamation.

To address this, an APC member from Kosofe, Oloye Salami Oluwaseun, appealed on Sunday for the Lagos State House of Assembly Deputy Speaker to be zoned to Kosofe. He noted that only Kosofe and Epe constituencies in Lagos East Senatorial District have produced ranking honorable members in the next Lagos State House of Assembly structure. He added that, in fair circumstances and in the interest of justice and equity, Kosofe constituencies deserve the next Deputy Speakership of the 10th assembly.

Oluwaseun emphasized that it would be appropriate and appreciated if party leaders and house leadership zone the exalted office to Kosofe during the house proclamation in June. Others also urged Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC members, APC leaders, and Council Chairmen to ensure that what belongs to Kosofe in the forthcoming 10th Assembly, and other political appointments from state and federal, are jointly pursued vigorously.

It is worth noting that the current Minister of the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Senator Adeleke Olorunnimbe Mamora, from Kosofe constituency 1, served as Speaker between 1999 and 2003. For about 20 years, Kosofe has not been able to produce any principal officers in the State House Assembly than chairing a committee of the House.
