Awofeso Rasheed, the CEO of the Children and Community Protection Network Lagos, has pledged to disseminate the knowledge acquired from recent training on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) to communities across Lagos. Rasheed made this commitment during a conversation with Kosofe Post at a recent capacity-building training session for police personnel focused on SGBV and Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Reflecting on the training, Rasheed expressed the significance of understanding and addressing abuses prevalent in society, particularly those impacting women and girls. He acknowledged that while men can also suffer from abuse, the incidence is substantially lower compared to the rates affecting women and girls. Therefore, he emphasized the importance of equipping individuals and communities with the tools to combat domestic violence against women and girls.

“As a participant here, we’ve come to learn about how abuses are going on in society and how we can abate it. We’ve been attending programs, but this appeared to be unique because the content of the program has to do with principles of handling cases of abuse in our society, and most vulnerable, most people that are mostly affected are women and girls,” Rasheed stated.

Rasheed’s commitment to extending this training to communities aligns with his organization’s mission. The Children and Community Protection Network Lagos has a history of actively engaging in interventions aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals within society, particularly those subjected to various forms of abuse.

His dedication to addressing SGBV and GBV is a critical step toward raising awareness, providing support, and empowering communities to combat gender-based violence. By cascading the knowledge gained from the training, Rasheed aims to contribute to the reduction of domestic violence against women and girls, ultimately creating safer and more supportive environments for all members of society.
