Controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky, has lodged an appeal against the six-month sentence imposed on him by a Federal High Court in Lagos. The sentence, handed down by Justice A.O. Awogboro, stemmed from charges brought forth by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) relating to naira abuse.

Bobrisky, who pleaded guilty to the charges, now seeks to overturn the judgment through his counsel, Mr. Bimbo Kusanu. In the notice of appeal, Kusanu argues for a reversal of the sentence, advocating for a fine of N50,000 on each count instead. He contends that the trial court overlooked mitigating factors, including Bobrisky’s cooperation and lack of prior convictions.

Asserting that the sentence was disproportionate and against the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, Kusanu emphasizes Bobrisky’s prompt admission of guilt and cooperation with authorities. The appeal contends that the trial court’s failure to consider these factors resulted in a miscarriage of justice against his client.
