Lasisi Urges Restraint as Tensions Rise Between Bada, Ogbara in Kosofe

The President of the Ta’awunu Humanitarian Forum, Taiwo Lasisi, has called for restraint between the Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Samiat Abolanle Bada, and the lawmaker representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, amid growing political tension in the area.

Speaking in an interview with KosofePost, Lasisi warned that the lingering rivalry between both figures could undermine not only their individual leadership profiles but also the broader political stability within Kosofe.

He described the situation as a developing “cold war,” noting that while political disagreements are expected in a competitive environment, prolonged hostilities risk eroding public trust and weakening governance outcomes.

“Rivalry is part of politics, but when it becomes sustained conflict, it begins to affect leadership credibility and public confidence,” he said.

Concerns Over Leadership Vacuum and Political Culture

Lasisi linked the rising tension to the absence of a unifying political figure following the death of Sikiru Adebayo Osinowo, suggesting that the leadership vacuum has contributed to increasing divisions within the political space.

Drawing on both Yoruba proverbs and political philosophy, including the ideas of Thomas Hobbes, he cautioned against unchecked rivalry, stressing that such dynamics could spiral into broader instability if not addressed early.

He maintained that both Bada and Ogbara remain influential and respected figures who can achieve greater political impact through collaboration rather than confrontation.

Implications for Public Perception and Female Leadership

Lasisi also raised concerns about the broader implications of the feud, particularly for public perception and the image of female leadership in politics.

“Young and emerging leaders are watching. The question is whether this is the kind of political culture we want to promote,” he said.

He warned that sustained conflict between two prominent female leaders could inadvertently reinforce negative stereotypes, rather than strengthen the case for inclusive and effective representation.

Rising Tensions Spill Beyond Politics

The call for calm follows reports of a recent altercation involving supporters of both camps at an event in Ogun State during the 60th birthday celebration of Kunle Soname.

According to available accounts, tensions reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation involving an individual identified as Tosin Hussein, although details of the incident remain unclear.

Lasisi expressed concern that such developments could signal a dangerous escalation if not managed properly.

Call for Elders’ Intervention

He urged political stakeholders and elders within Kosofe to step in and mediate, emphasizing the traditional role of leadership in preventing conflict.

He also cautioned individuals allegedly benefiting from the discord to desist, warning that escalating tensions could have unintended consequences for all involved.

“Now is the time for leaders to rise and ensure that peace prevails in Kosofe,” he said.
