Residents of Anthony Village, Lagos, have petitioned the Nigeria Police Force over a dispute with Ecobank Nigeria Limited concerning the opening of a residential street to through-traffic, alleging that the move could compromise security in the neighbourhood.

In a petition dated October 12, 2026, and addressed to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Anthony Village Police Station, the Oseni Odunlami-Silvia Crescent Development Association (CDA) accused the bank and its construction contractors of disregarding an earlier understanding that access to the street would remain closed during the commercial development at No. 1, Silvia Crescent.

The petition, signed by CDA Chairman Odujirin Olalekan and Secretary Babayeju Eniola Adeshina, said residents had previously raised concerns with bank representatives and the project’s site engineer about the potential security implications of opening the residential close to commercial traffic.

According to the association, a meeting was subsequently held with the bank’s representative, during which both parties allegedly agreed that the internal access street would remain closed to protect the neighbourhood.

However, the residents alleged that Ecobank and its contractors recently reopened the access route without prior consultation, notice or approval from the CDA’s executive body.

“This unilateral action has seriously compromised the security architecture of our close, exposed residents to intruders, and poses a grave threat to lives and properties,” the petition stated.

Residents Request Police Intervention

Expressing concern about the possible entry of unauthorised persons into the neighbourhood, the CDA asked the police to intervene and facilitate a resolution of the dispute.

The association requested that the police summon Ecobank’s management, the construction company and the site supervisor for questioning.

It also asked the police to facilitate the immediate closure of the access route and restoration of the previous arrangement pending a formal resolution.

The residents further urged the bank to honour the alleged earlier commitment and obtain written approval from the CDA before making future changes that could affect community safety.

They also called for measures to protect lives and property within the neighbourhood.

Copies of the petition were reportedly sent to the Area Commander of Area H, Ogudu, and the site engineers supervising the development at No. 1, Silvia Crescent.

Ecobank’s Response Awaited

The dispute centres on the residents’ concerns about neighbourhood security and their claim that the bank departed from an earlier verbal understanding concerning the street’s accessibility.

As of the time of reporting, Ecobank Nigeria Limited had not issued an official response to the petition.

The allegations contained in the petition have not been independently established, and the bank’s position on the dispute was not available at the time of publication.
